In celebration of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary, Nintendo is re-releasing both Super Mario Galaxy games to Nintendo Switch in a couple of weeks on October 2. Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 will be available on a physical cartridge together or can be purchased separately digitally on the Nintendo eShop.
Additionally, on April 2, 2026, two new amiibo will be released commemorating two of Nintendo’s best 3D platformers of all-time. One features Mario and Luma being warped through space from a planet, and the other is Rosalina telling her bedtime stories to the Luma.

Super Mario Galaxy Finally Comes to Nintendo Switch
While it has been a long time coming for Super Mario Galaxy 2 to be available on Nintendo Switch, it is a bit odd to bundle both games in a physical edition rather than just bring the second game to Super Mario 3D All-Stars. That collection, which was released for the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary, already features Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and the original Super Mario Galaxy. Regardless, we are just happy to finally have the sequel available.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 is essentially a retelling of the first game from a story point but expands on the game in many ways. Yoshi is available and there are a ton of new challenges. Both Galaxy games are generally considered to be some of the best 3D platformers of all time.
You can expect Super Mario Galaxy 1+2 to act essentially the same as they did in the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection. While both are Wii games, you will be able to play without the motion controls that are honestly, a small part of their design.
