It’s a two-fold achievement, according to Capcom. It was revealed today that Street Fighter 6 has reached one million players in just three days and that the series has now sold more than 50 million copies since it debuted in 1987.
Street Fighter 6 was released on June 2nd, and it immediately became a hit amongst fans of the fighting genre. To celebrate the milestone, Capcom has added a profile title to the game that fans can claim for free. It’s one hell of an achievement, especially considering it took Street Fighter 5 around three months to sell roughly the same amount.
Doing it Right
Capcom has had a monumental year thus far, enjoying record-breaking sales with the Resident Evil 4 Remake and a higher-than-ever share price that soared in May. It was confirmed in a financial report published in May 2023 that, during the previous fiscal year, Capcom shipped more than 40 million games.
It looks as though that success continues with Street Fighter 6, with more than one million players entering the fight over just a three-day period. On Steam – as a representative example – Street Fighter 6 secured a higher concurrent player count than any other fighting game ever released on the platform, according to Exputer.
It’s proving to be a remarkable game, with reviews coming in thick and fast with high scores and glowing praise, referencing it as one of the best fighting games to ever be released.
Street Fighter 6 is available now on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
