State of Decay 3 Developer Undead Labs Officially Goes Independent

Undead Labs is officially an independent studio. On Tuesday, the State of Decay 3 developer announced on its website that it has completed its separation from XBOX.

It’s the first time since 2018 that Undead Labs will operate as an independent company.

State of Decay 3 Remains In Development

In its announcement, Undead Labs confirmed that State of Decay 3 development “remains actively underway”. The game is currently in alpha, with work continuing to bring it to closed beta by the end of the year.

They also still plan to release the game in 2027 on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Xbox Game Pass.

“Independence brings us closer to our community and lets us focus on what matters most: making the best games we can and earning the continued support of the people who choose to spend their time with us,” Undead Labs studio head Philip Holt said in a statement.

“State of Decay exists because millions of players have made that choice over the years, and we’re dedicated to honoring their trust.”

Holt continued that the studio was “enormously grateful” for the long relationship with Xbox over the years. He said that “Microsoft has been part of the State of Decay story from the very beginning, and we’re proud of everything we’ve accomplished together.”

As far as future updates on State of Decay 3, Undead Labs says future plans “will be shared at a laster date”.
