Starfield hasn’t even officially been released yet and speedrunners are already picking the game apart to figure out how fast it can be beaten, and so far the results are very impressive. Despite Starfield’s early access only beginning on September 1st, and the main release not happening until September 6th, Starfield has already been beaten in under three hours.
Early estimations have predicted that the main story of Starfield will take approximately 17-20 hours to complete while completing everything the game has to offer can take as long as 160-200 hours. With this taken into account, speedrunner Micrologist has beaten the game in under 1/6th of the estimated time to finish the story. In a video posted on Micrologist’s YouTube channel, the speedrunner currently holds the known world record of 2:51:42. As the game hasn’t been released yet, there are no official leaderboards on Speedrun.com and it typically takes 2-3 weeks after release for them to go live so we likely won’t see speedruns being submitted until toward the end of September.
How Fast Will Starfield Be Beaten In The Future?
Speedrunners continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in video games, with some games Any% categories taking just minutes to complete. Super Mario Bros. was beaten in just 4:54 by Niftski, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was beaten by Murph_E in 3:50 by using arbitrary code execution to manipulate the game into warping to the final Ganon fight early on in the game.
When it comes to Bethesda games, players have spent thousands of hours figuring out every minor detail in the game to complete them as quickly as possible. Fallout 4 was beaten by Elongated_Musketgun in just 35:46, while Skyrim was beaten by Waz in just 22:58, completing the main quest and reaching the end of the game. If these recent Bethesda games are anything to go by, there will likely be a lot of exploits that can be used to reach the end of the game very quickly. It may take some time, but it is very possible that we will see Starfield beaten by speedrunners in under one hour.
