GSC Game World has unveiled the first major story expansion for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, which was released in November 2024. The expansion, dubbed Cost of Hope, promises ‘dozens of hours of gameplay’, opens up new areas of The Zone, gives players new weapons and ways to fight, and casts the player into a brutal faction-driven war.
While STALKER 2 has received a few chunky updates over the last year and a half, they’ll pale in comparison to Cost of Hope, an absolute overhaul that impressively furthers the story and universe of Heart of Chornobyl.
When is Cost of Hope Coming Out?
GSC Game World took to the (digital) stage at the recent Xbox Partner Showcase to unveil Cost of Hope, the first major story expansion for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. In a press release, the team revealed what players are set to uncover in Cost of Hope:
Step into a fresh expedition across the Zone — a massive nonlinear expansion packed with dozens of hours of gameplay. Expect haunting stories, twisted characters, and that same heavy atmosphere of decay… with just a flicker of hope breaking through.
In Cost of Hope, Skif is front and centre once more, leaping into a new storyline that’s shaped by the player’s choices, just like in the base game. Except, this time, the ramifications of how STALKER fans choose to play can radiate far beyond The Zone.
This expansion is set to offer two new regions, the most important of which is the iconic Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, a terrifying, trepidous location fraught with danger and vicious mutants.
To fight those mutants (the array of which includes new threats), Skif will be equipped with new weapons and gear, including the legendary SKS carbine, which eagle-eyed fans will see a Duty soldier wielding in the trailer for the expansion:
GSC Game World explained that Cost of Hope is the ‘middle chapter of the second trilogy’, and it’ll be joined later by another story DLC. As the team said, ‘it will form a new, expansive narrative arc within the STALKER saga.’
Cost of Hope will be released in the summer on Xbox, PlayStation 5, and PC.
