Space Marine 2 Release Date Announced at The Game Awards

The Game Awards 2023 is here, celebrating the past 12 months of gaming and looking forward to the upcoming year with dozens of new trailers and announcements. One of the games shown during The Game Awards was Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, the long-awaited sequel to the original 2011 game. Unfortunately, the game has suffered some delays after having been first revealed at The Game Awards 2021, but that is set to change as an official release date has now been set for the game.

Space Marine 2 is a third-person shooter hack-and-slash game that combines both melee and ranged combat as you play as a three-player squad via online multiplayer or by having AI-controlled characters help you. The first entry in the series received mixed reviews from critics, with it holding a 76% score on Metacritic. The Warhammer franchise is still incredibly popular as both a video game franchise and a tabletop miniature wargame. Since 1989, there have been over 100 video games released as part of the Warhammer IP, making it one of the longest-standing video game franchises of all time.

It has been announced that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will launch on September 9, 2024, on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The game was originally scheduled to be released in late 2023 but it was pushed back to “the second half of 2024.” It is great to finally see a release date given for the game, we just hope it won’t suffer any more delays in the coming months.
