Sony Reveals The PS5 Pro With A November Release Date

After reports and rumors aplenty over the past 16 months, Sony has officially revealed the PlayStation 5 (PS5) Pro for players. The announcement came via a special 9 minute event on PlayStation’s YouTube channel.

The PS5 Pro is an all-digital console with a release date of November 7. As far as price goes, it’ll retail for $699.99. That’s a $200 increase over the base PS5 that features a disc drive.

The console comes with a 2TB SSD, a DualSense controller, and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed. Should you want to add a disc drive, you can buy the separate disc drive for the console for $80.

As far as the look of the console goes, the design matches what was shown via leaks and teasers. The console looks similar to the base PS5 but has three black stripes on the side plate.

Now, what’s in the console? Sony is advertising a “big three” of updates for the PS5 Pro compared to the base PS5. Those include the following, courtesy of Sony:

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

Other features of the console include PS5 Pro Game Boost for backward compatible PS4 games on the console. It will also feature Wi-Fi 7 as well as VRR and 8K.
