Sony No Longer Releasing Single-Player PlayStation Exclusives On PC

If you’ve been enjoying playing the likes of God of War, the ‘Ghost’ franchise, and other Sony single-player games on PC, you might need to upgrade to a PS5 for future releases, if you haven’t already.

In a shocking turn of events, Sony is ending the bulk of its third-party exclusivity strategy by taking away future core single-player titles from PC. This means that upcoming games like Wolverine will remain PS5 exclusives, and it surely shuts the door on PlayStation-to-Xbox ports.

Single-Player Sony Titles To Remain PlayStation Exclusives Moving Forward

In a monumental report from Jason Schreier of Bloomberg (paywalled), the journalist has revealed that “Sony Group Corp. no longer plans to release its big PlayStation 5 games on PC.”

Over the last six-plus years, PC players have gratefully accepted ports of Returnal, God of War, God of War Ragnarok, the Spider-Man games, and the Horizon franchise.

Schreier claims that “in recent weeks, PlayStation scrapped plans to bring Ghost of Yotei and other internally developed games to PC.”

On the other hand, multiplayer titles WILL remain as third-party releases, such as Marathon and Marvel Tokon.

A PlayStation spokesperson has apparently refused to comment on this strategic shift. If this comes to fruition, Saros, Wolverine, and future PlayStation franchises, including God of War, Ratchet & Clank, and more, will be sticking to the blue brand for the foreseeable future—although Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora are reportedly safe.

Speculation will run rampant over why Sony has pulled off such a huge U-turn. Schreier has postulated that PlayStation exclusive ports not selling well on PC could be to blame, whereas people allegedly connected to Sony think that “Releasing their games on PC risks damaging the console’s brand and will hurt sales of the PlayStation 5 and its successors.”

What do you make of this huge report? Are you a PC owner without a PS5? Will this make you take the plunge for massive Sony exclusives? Please share all your thoughts and more via the Insider Gaming Discord.

  • That’s fine. I usually pay for the privilege to play PS games on steam so I can utilize my 4090/13900k set up, but if Sony wants me to download Logan for free through game sharing with my buddy on my PS5, I’m more than happy to keep that $70 in my pocket. Thanks Sony!

  • That’s not true I heard at least early pc ports sold well. This will hurt them more sales wise and guess nixxes is shutting down now same with other port studios. Tokon is a fighting game. Sony is digging a grave

  • I personally think Sony have made this U-Turn because of the rumored Steam release on Xbox coming at some point to prevent new PS games being launchable on Xbox. There is also a chance this is Sony’s response to Xbox’s change of leadership, and trying to get ahead of Xbox supposedly going back to Exclusive releases too.

It’s all a shame to me personally because I thought this bs “Console war” was over. It should be about preference in my opinion.

If Sony make all games playable via Keyboard and Mouse on PS5 and PS6 then I personally won’t have an issue with it. I love the PS5 controller but Keyboard and Mouse is just my preferred way to play all games now.

  • “PlayStation exclusive ports not selling well on PC could be to blame”

That’s not true because almost every major game that Sony released on PC sold millions and generated billions in total. But “damaging the console’s brand” is more acceptable.

According to Sony’s revenue “other software” line item, they generated approximately $2.37 billion as of December 31 2025

  • All this means is I won’t be playing any of their games because the PS5 and PS5 Pro have never been as good as my PC systems are. I’ve never owned a PlayStation and I never will because they have always been a severe downgrade from what I already had.

  • Herman Hulst should be fired he lied. He promised a return to old IP but refused to let Bluepoint remake Jak or other old IP games and then shut them down.
