Sonic Frontiers was released to mostly positive reviews back in November 2022, and that positive energy transferred into impressive sales. Sega has revealed that Sonic Frontiers has sold 3.5 million copies since launch, making it the best-selling 3D Sonic game ever.
The revelation came via Sega’s press conference to discuss its acquisition of Rovio.
With 3.5 million copies sold, Sonic Frontiers has surpassed Sonic Heroes. No numbers for Sonic Heroes have been made public in over 15 years, but it’s believed to have sold just less than Frontiers at this point according to Sonic fan page Tails Channel. That said, other outlets have suggested over 4 million copies of Sonic Heroes were sold, though those numbers are unconfirmed.”
“If officialized by SEGA, it is widely expected that Frontiers will surpass Sonic Heroes to become the best-selling 3D-based title in the franchise’s history, according to the last officially-disclosed sales data after 2007,” Tails Channel says.
Sonic Frontiers recently received an expansion to add a camera mode, new challenges, and a jukebox. On top of that, the game still has two more major additions coming that will add a new Koco, Sonic’s birthday celebration, new playable characters, and even a new story, among other additions.
Sonic Frontiers is available now on all major consoles as well as PC. What do you make of Sonic Frontiers being the best-selling 3D Sonic game of all time?
