A New Sly Cooper Game Isn’t in Development by Sucker Punch

Despite the rumblings, Sucker Punch isn’t working on a Sly Cooper game, according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

Earlier today, rumors began to swirl following Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb’s video “Perfect Dark and Summer Game Mess update”, where Grubb speculated that Sucker Punch could be working on a Sly Cooper game, which is causing Ghost of Tsushima 2 to take a long time to release. Speculating on Sly, Grubb said, “That’s speculation, but it’s definitely smoke out there, but maybe where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

Grubb’s comments and speculation subsequently started to make the rounds on Twitter, with some users representing the information as fact. However, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier swooped in on the rumor to debunk it.

“No truth to this one, sorry to say. Sucker Punch is a one-project studio. The reason Ghost of Tsushima 2 isn’t out yet is because AAA video games now take 5-7 years to make. (Also, Sucker Punch is smaller than most other AAA game developers)”, he said.

As for if Sucker Punch will ever make another Sly Cooper game remains to be seen, but at the moment, the team is entirely focused on the next Ghost of Tsushima game.

The last mainline Sly Cooper game to be released was Thieves in Time in 2013 by Sanzaru Games. Despite the game featuring a secret ending alluding to a future installment, Sanzaru issued a statement in 2014 that the studio was not developing a new game in the series.

Do you think Sucker Punch will ever do another Sly Cooper game? Let us know in the comments below!

  • Really I heard Sucker Punch had a new IP, Got2, and a multiplayer game that last one might have been cancelled. If they have no other game just Got2 then it looks bad for Sony.

    • Heard the same thing they even confirmed it they said they had Ghost Of Tsushima 2 and a “new IP” so did this guy get bad info or did things change? Still waiting for updates from a number of 1st party studios Bend’s game, Bluepoint, Santa Monica’s new IP, Guerilla’s FPS, and Concord.
