Romero Games isn’t closed. So says the studio itself in a new post on social media.
After speculation suggested that the studio was closed upon the cancellation of its publisher agreement with Xbox, Romero Games says they are still moving forward despite having its funding pulled and game canceled.
“We want to address recent reports regarding the status of Romero Games,” the message starts. “These reports have contained inaccuracies, and we feel it’s important to set the record straight.”
Romero Games says that it can’t disclose the exact publisher, “though some may infer it from public information”.

As a result of the funding being pulled, they said that they have to reassess the staffing at the studio. However, that doesn’t mean it’s shutting down right now.
“Romero Games is not closed, and we are doing everything in our power to ensure that it does not come to that,” they said. “Any suggestion otherwise is factually incorrect. Indeed, we were in the studio today to discuss next steps with the team.”
They then said that they have already been contacted by “several publishers” about continuing development on the game an getting it released.
“We’re currently evaluating those opportunities,” they said while restating how appreciative they are for the support for the team since the news originally broke.
Romero Games was founded in 2015 by iD Software co-founder John Romero and his wife Brenda Romero. The studio has released five games since its founding, including SIGIL and SIGIL 2.
