The upcoming Resident Evil film from Sony has cast an Emmy winner in an unspecified role.
Directed by Weapons’ Zach Cregger, the film has been a hot ticket in Hollywood since being announced. It was acquired by Sony Pictures and is currently in production. The film is slated to release on September 18th, 2026. While we don’t know much about the story outside of a few details, we now have another actor joining the cast. This time, it’s one who’s had quite the success at the box office and awards.
Paul Walter Hauser Joins Austin Abrams in Sony’s Resident Evil Movie
Reported exclusively by Deadline, it was revealed that Paul Walter Hauser has been added to the cast of Sony’s Resident Evil film. He joins previously announced cast member Austin Abrams, who’ll play the lead. Given how secretive the film has been, we don’t know who Paul will be playing. Still, with his acting range of comedy and drama, he’s sure to be a pre-emptive scene-stealer.
Paul Walter Hauser has been acting for a while, but recently hit his stride with back-to-back box-office blockbusters. He starred in Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps as Mole Man before doing The Naked Gun as Capt. Ed Hocken Jr. Even more so, the actor has won several awards, including an Emmy and a Golden Globe, for his role in Apple TV+’s Black Bird.
His dynamic resume does fit well with Resident Evil, especially with director Zach Cregger. Cregger’s latest film, Weapons, has dominated the box office and seen massive fanfare from critics and fans alike. Whether lightning will strike twice remains to be seen, but Resident Evil is sure to be a hit come its September 2026 release.
