It’s no big secret that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be a world-bending game when it drops on November 19. It’s set to be a paradigm-shifting title that changes the face of the industry and pulls in tens of millions of players in the blink of an eye. That also means that every other game out there is about to suffer big time, especially the live-service multiplayer games.
That was a concept explored recently by Joshua Mills, the new Creative Director of Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft’s flagship competitive shooter. From November 6 to 15, the BLAST R6 Major Osaka will play out, and it’ll serve as a hype-generating event that reveals everything coming in the next major Rainbow Six update, but GTA 6 has the potential to screw it all up.
Will GTA 6 Dash Rainbow Six to Pieces?
On November 15, the grand final of the BLAST R6 Major Osaka will take place, and it’s there that Ubisoft will take to the stage to reveal everything coming to Rainbow Six Siege. It’s where new maps, modes, operators, quality-of-life improvements, and groundbreaking new features are all explored, but it lands just days before the launch of GTA 6.
In a recent interview with The Game Business, Rainbow Six Siege’s Creative Director, Joshua Mills, spoke with transparency about the launch of GTA 6, which is set to be one of the most disruptive events in gaming history.
We have got a big one coming this year, which is GTA. Obviously, it doesn’t matter what genre you’re in; you’re going to get hit when that drops. You have to think ahead and bring your expectations in line with what’s going to go on there.
In his words, it’s about putting on the best show possible for the fans to keep them engaged, laying out a spread for those who choose Rainbow Six Siege over GTA 6:
The one rule we have is to act as if, for those who stay connected the whole time, serve them like kings and queens, make sure that they constantly have what it is that we offer and make sure that we serve them to the best of our ability.
He stressed that Ubisoft isn’t ‘going on vacation’ simply because a competitor is launching a product that swells the market.
Of course, Rainbow Six and GTA aren’t direct competitors, so that helps. It also helps that Siege’s anniversary is drawing closer, and that’s always an exciting time to be a fan. Recently, the team launched the new Wasteland Circuit racing mode, and that has proven to be a hit with fans, showing that the energy is still there.
