This isn’t a story you see every day, that’s for sure. Earlier this week, the news broke regarding CAG Osaka’s Sho ‘BlackRay’ Hasegawa, who was arrested by police in Tokyo under some severe and shocking allegations. It has been claimed that the 24-year-old Rainbow Six pro player was part of a group that kidnapped, transported, and tortured a man in Tokyo over three months.
Hasegawa and his alleged partners in crime have been detained by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, and it has been reported that they’ve either remained silent or have outright denied all charges levied against them.
A Different Kind of Fight
Sho Hasegawa, who goes by BlackRay in the Rainbow Six Siege competitive scene, is a fairly successful player. He has racked up almost $200,000 in winnings and has represented CAG Osaka since breaking into the space in 2019. It has been a while since a major win for Hasegawa, but early in his career, he lifted trophies across Japan and APAC.
Earlier this year, Hasegawa appeared at the Six Invitational in Boston, and while CAG Osaka dropped out relatively early, Hasegawa was awarded an MVP award for a solid day of play. His most recent appearance on stage was during the RE:L0:AD tournament in Rio de Janeiro, where CAG Osaka secured a second-place finish.
In a damning report filed by Japan’s Jiji.com, details were revealed about the allegations leveled against Hasegawa and his cohort. It has been reported that the group kidnapped and confined a man in Tokyo for three months, relocating him several times as they periodically tortured him.
It’s said in the report that the group had a dispute with the victim over ‘construction costs’, and in a bid to get more money out of the man, they allegedly beat him, poured boiling water over him, hit him with a hammer, and stabbed him with screwdrivers. The report goes into further detail, claiming that the group ‘pressed a hot frying pan’ against the victim.

In the days that followed the breaking news, CAG Osaka revealed it would be withdrawing from the APAC League 2025 playoffs, scheduled to begin tomorrow, July 20. This means that CAG Osaka will no longer be eligible to qualify for the Esports World Cup. From what we know, BlackRay has also been dropped from the team’s roster.
