The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Bank will shut down in February 2027, marking the end of an era for the franchise.
Pokémon Bank launched worldwide in 2014 as a Nintendo 3DS application, allowing players to store up to 3,000 Pokémon in a cloud storage system, including Pokémon from some of the oldest games in the franchise.
However, the end is now in sight for the application, leaving many players with a tough decision on what approach to take before the shutdown date.
Pokémon Bank Shutting Down February 26 2027
Posted on the company’s Japanese website, it was announced that Pokémon Bank would be sunset on Friday, February 26, 2027, giving fans a few more months to move their beloved Pokémon over.
Pokémon Bank was succeeded by Nintendo Switch’s Pokémon Home application, also available on mobile, which has allowed all eras of the Pokémon franchise to connect. However, the end is now in sight.
Once the above date passes, you will no longer be able to connect to Pokémon Bank, and connectivity to Pokémon Home will be severed; and while that’s a big enough blow in itself, there are bigger concerns for fans.
As it stands, the Nintendo Switch era for the Pokémon franchise has not included all 1025 Pokémon, with many only obtainable through Pokémon Go, and a significant number are locked behind special events.
That means players who wish to complete the popular Living Dex challenge will have a much harder task when Pokémon Bank support ends, but there’s one aspect which has proven to be a major talking point.
The end date of Pokémon Bank falls a day prior to Pokémon Day, an anniversary celebrating the initial releases of Red and Green in Japan, which has become a yearly event where the Pokémon Company reveals a slew of new details.
Given that Pokémon Day falls on a Saturday in 2027, Friday 26th, the same day as Pokémon Bank support ends, will likely be the date of a special Pokémon Presents showcase, and fans are now hoping that there could be more news to counteract the negatives of the end of Pokémon Bank.
