When you think of videos that haven’t aged well in the gaming world, it’s hard to think of many more incredible than Sony’s ‘Official PlayStation Used Game Instructional Video,’ which was once a huge marketing victory for the company with the PlayStation 4. Now, it’s a reminder of what we had.
The PS4 was a hit from the very beginning. Big exclusives, an inclusive price point, and a full focus on gaming, whereas the Xbox One was second-best in all of these departments. Moreover, XBOX made second-hand gaming extremely difficult, whereas PlayStation simply required you to swap a disc—2028 will be a fever dream in comparison.
Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes Recreate Disc Borrowing at Tokyo Game Show

During Sony’s E3 2013 showing, a PlayStation ‘advert’ aired, showing then-president of SCE Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, and then-VP of third-party relations and developer technology at PlayStation, Adam Boyes, sharing a game.
‘Sharing the game’ involved Yoshida passing Boyes a physical copy of Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Boyes gratefully receiving it. The simplest banter can be the best.

Well, at the Tokyo Game Show 2026, Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes crossed paths again and posed for a picture, effectively recapturing the magic. This time, there’s no physical box—I don’t know if you’ve heard about Sony stopping physical discs—as they playfully hold up nothing in the air.
It’s funny, but also a painful reminder of Sony’s decision to backtrack on physical media. The outrage has carried on since the announcement, leading to the Don’t Kill The Disc Petition. It’s not been the best 2026, and this video is a reminder of how the relationship between the company and its fanbase has plummeted this year.
