Not everything has to be a brutal Soulslike, and Phantom Blade Zero feels like a refreshing hardcore action game with a great aesthetic. Everything shown so far has been great, and its latest look at Sony’s State of Play could be the best yet.
I had the terrific opportunity for a special Phantom Blade Zero HANDS-ON Preview at Gamescom. TL;DR, it was incredible.
Fast, fluid, furious, and full of action. Phantom Blade Zero’s countdown will rapidly start heating up, if it isn’t already, and if its new trailer can’t convince you, nothing will.
Phantom Blade Zero Looks Boss

The Phantom Blade Zero September 2026 release draws near.
We know Phantom Blade Zero isn’t a proper Soulslike, and that’s nothing wrong with that, and we also know the game’s honor system isn’t a gimmick and will influence the main story.
There’s a lot more substance than meets the eye, but even the keenest of eyes will see how much style Phantom Blade Zero has in abundance.
I wholeheartedly encourage you to check out the new trailer from Sony’s June 2026 SOP Showcase.
Head to the Insider Gaming Discord and let us know if you think Phantom Blade Zero will be a top action game, or maybe even a GOTY contender.
