Blizzard has lifted the lid on Sierra, the 51st Hero to hit Overwatch’s ecosystem, debuting the new character with a stylish cinematic that has left some fans confused. That’s mainly because the trailer seems to better showcase other, existing Heroes, rather than Sierra, a powerful new DPS (we assume).
Sierra’s origins haven’t been explained outright, but eagle-eyed fans have linked the character’s design to a 2021 novel dubbed Overwatch: Deadlock Rebels. In that book, there was a character named Frankie, a hacker, and the description of that model bears a striking resemblance to Sierra, revealed in an all-new trailer.
Sierra’s Trailer Reveals Weakness to Emre and Freja
In Sierra’s new trailer, released by Overwatch to unveil the new Hero, we see the stage set with Sierra trying to stop Talon from obtaining a mysterious, unnamed weapon. She clashes with Emre, outmaneuvering him off the bat but being quickly subdued by his Override Protocol.
Before long, Freja turns up and restrains Sierra further, pinning the new Hero down and allowing for an escape. The spotlight in Sierra’s trailer is strangely stolen by Emre, who seems to effortlessly overpower Sierra, but it at least gives us an idea of her abilities.
She seems to wield a hitscan weapon, a plasma rifle that fires energy bolts. The trailer almost gives away a secondary ability for the rifle, which looks like some kind of high-energy, precise dart mechanic.
In one segment, the weapon seems to have a homing ability, which would be a rare move for Blizzard regarding a DPS Hero.
In terms of equipment, Sierra is revealed to have a bird-like drone mounted on her arm, which assists her in traversal and tracking targets at long range. This is implied as central to Sierra’s role and makes her a mobile, capable competitor.
