Despite being reasonably popular on its Steam launch with over 75,000 concurrent players, Overwatch 2 is now Steam’s worst-reviewed game of all time.
As of the time of writing, Overwatch 2 has just shy of 78,000 reviews with the game being rated as “Overwhelmingly Negative”. According to Steam250’s Hall of Shame, the aggregated user score puts the game at 1.09, which is significantly lower than the game in second place, War of the Three Kingdoms, which stands at 1.20.
It should be noted that the game has almost certainly been ‘review bombed’ – A term used when the community comes together to leave negative reviews. Reading the reviews, there’s not much in terms of constructive criticism from many and whilst many reviews have likely just been placed for the sake of it, the Overwatch community has expressed its displeasure in the game’s lack of content and balance issues.
Mr. Dam Man said, “I somehow purchased Overwatch 1 for $40, which Blizzard then deleted and created this predatory microtransaction simulator instead. It’s the exact same game, but they removed all the stuff you paid full price for in Overwatch 1. If you played Overwatch 1 at launch, this is not only identical, it is the exact same game.
Biggest cash grab of the 21st century.”
Another review, left by a user named BRAY said, “
They released Overwatch 2 as a free to play business model, which leans more heavily into microtransactions, overpriced skins and predatory behaviour. To make matters worse, they shut down the first game, making it unplayable for people who purchased it, meaning the playerbase has to move over to this free to play business model to keep playing the game.
But at least it will have a promised PvE Hero mode that would feature character progression, which was a main part of the game’s selling point? no, that was cancelled. but you can buy a lighter story mission for “only” $15
Don’t support this predatory behaviour.”
Activision Blizzard is yet to comment on the Steam review situation, but we’ll keep you in the loop if they do!
