John Cena Is Doing Side Missions and Promoting Overwatch 2

It has been revealed that ‘The Enigma’ that has been taking centre stage in recent promotions for Overwatch 2’s Invasion event is none other than wrestling and acting superstar, John Cena… For some reason.

He’s not appearing in Overwatch 2, but he is being used for marketing the upcoming and long-awaited event that’s rolling out player-vs-environment missions. It has been a long time coming, and for some, Blizzard cancelling the Overwatch 2 Hero Mode, which was going to be a PvE bonanza, was a disgrace.

But now, Overwatch 2: Invasion is on the horizon, PvE is almost here, and John Cena is on board.

John Cena does it all – and that’s what we mean by side missions. It was recently confirmed he’d be making an appearance in Mortal Kombat 1 as his Peacemaker character, and in April it was revealed that John Cena would be an exclusive playable character in *checks notes* PGA Tour 2K23.

For the last few days, there have been ongoing promotions for Invasion that have seen a mysterious, shady character hacking into games and streams. It confused fans for a while until it was revealed that it was all a grand marketing strategy for Invasion, which is expected to breathe a little life into Overwatch 2 – which remains popular thanks to a pivot to a free-to-play operating model last year.

What do you think? Are you more likely to enjoy Overwatch 2 now that you know John Cena is on board and promoting upcoming content, or do you absolutely not care at all?
