A new report has claimed that one of People Can Fly’s cancelled projects was Outriders 2.
The report comes from a relatively new outlet named TheThumbWars, but Insider Gaming can corroborate the details.
However, footage and screenshots sent to Insider Gaming of the project, under the condition that it would not be made public, show that the game wasn’t in a stage deemed “nearly finished” as initially reported.
The game, which was under the codename Project Gemini, was in its motion capture (MOCAP) stage of development earlier this year.
As for why Geemini/Outriders 2 was cancelled, the reasoning hasn’t been publicly announced, but several sources have stated that the issue stemmed from alleged funding and communication issues with the game’s publisher, Square Enix.
Project Gemini was one of two projects cancelled in June, resulting in the layoffs of 50 employees. Last year, People Can Fly conducted layoffs that resulted in the loss of at least 120 more employees.
At the time of writing, People Can Fly are known to be working on at least five other projects. Gears of War: E-Day in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, Project Echo with Krafton, Project Delta with Sony Interactive Entertainment and Lost Rift (VR) and Project Bison.
Insider Gaming will update this report if more information from People Can Fly or Square Enix is provided.
