For the third time this year, Nvidia is reportedly raising the prices of its graphics cards for consumers. According to a new report, the company is set to raise GPU prices anywhere from 20% to 30%.
The report comes from Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, which says the decision comes as the cost of DRAM continues to rise.
All Nvidia Graphics Cards Will See A Spike
Whereas prior price increases seemed to only affect high-end GPUs like the GeForce RTX 5090, Economic Daily News says prices on all graphics cards in the lineup will increase.
They say that Nvidia has already notified graphics card manufacturers of the planned price adjustment. The outlet says “this price increase involves both GDDR7 video memory and the previous generation GDDR6 video memory.”
Over the last 18 months, GPU prices have risen by hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. The RTX 5090, which launched at $1,999, is now $3,999-$4,500. Lower-end cards like the RTX 5060 Ti have seen prices jump from $379 to $569.
As of publication, Nvidia hasn’t publicly announced any price increase to its graphics cards.
AI and Data Centers Are To Blame
Regarding the rising cost of DRAM, it stems from the continued investment in AI and data centers around the world. Companies continue to buy up all of the available components at a rate that outpaces supply, leaving consumers to shoulder the load of higher costs.
Nvidia is one of the largest proponents of the rise in AI. Recently, CEO Jensen Huang said that he believes the “doom talk” surrounding AI is “complete nonsense”. He’s also gone on the record saying that the anti-AI narrative is “hurtful” to the industry.
