Nintendo to Reportedly Cut Down Switch 2 Production

Nintendo has reportedly decided to reduce the production of Switch 2 consoles due to weak sales in the US.

According to the latest video games sales data, the Nintendo Switch 2 is outselling the original by a large margin in the United States, trending 45% ahead. However, it seems that these numbers may not be enough for the company, as they might be ramping down production significantly.

Switch 2 Production Reportedly Reduced Due to Weak Sales in the US

A report by Bloomberg indicates that the holiday season performance of the Nintendo Switch 2 did not meet the company’s expectations, especially in the US. As a result, Nintendo has decided to lower its production target for this quarter to 4 million units, which is a reduction of one-third from the initially planned 6 million units. This reduced-output plan is set to continue until April 2026.

When talking about Nintendo Switch 2 production, there are two other factors to consider. The company has confirmed that a new variant of the console is under development, which will introduce a replaceable battery to comply with European Union regulations. Additionally, the company’s president has stated that they will “carefully consider” raising the price of the Switch 2 amid rising memory costs.

In other news, THQ Nordic has announced that it’s bringing several games to the Nintendo Switch family of consoles. A new Handheld Mode Boost option has been released for the Switch 2, increasing the performance of Switch 1 games. What are your thoughts on Nintendo seemingly cutting down Switch 2 production?
