In a new official post, Nintendo announced it will end X (Twitter) integration features on the Nintendo Switch on June 10, 2024.
Users will lose the option to send screenshots and videos from the Switch’s Album to X. Naturally, this will also affect how players post in Splatoon and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Nintendo will also remove the Friend Suggestions feature, which allowed players to send friend requests through social media. Instead, players can “use the friend suggestions feature from smart devices, Nintendo 3DS, and Wii U.”
Today’s post adds that “posting screenshots and videos to Facebook will continue to be available.” However, it warns users that the Facebook feature could potentially be “discontinued at a later date.”
Although Nintendo thanked players for using the integration features, it did not offer an explanation for discontinuing them on Switch. Fans speculate that it may have been a combination of costs and low usage.
While most users have already compiled workarounds for sharing screenshots, others called for a new Miiverse. The classic network for 3DS would certainly be ripe to return.
This week, Nintendo finally announced that it will reveal the new Switch successor sometime during this fiscal year. It’s possible that Nintendo is ending social media integration features to prepare something new for the upcoming console.
Nintendo will also host a new direct sometime in June, featuring games that will launch on Switch in the second half of 2024.
