In a recent appearance on social media, Xbox’s Sarah Bond walked through the future of the platform while revealing a multi-year partnership with AMD.
During this announcement, Bond confirmed that the team is working on future Xbox consoles that are focused on cutting-edge graphics and unparalleled performance. However, the order of the day is to ensure that your entire library is backwards compatible and fully accessible wherever you are, no matter what comes next.
Consoles, Plural
That’s right, Sarah Bond made a comment in this video about there being consoles planned in the Xbox lineup, which effectively extinguishes the belief that Microsoft is planning to pull out of manufacturing hardware. That could be a marketing trick, though, as we all know that as of a few months ago, everything is an Xbox.
On the topic of whatever comes next, Sarah Bond was quick to reassure fans that no matter what happens, their existing Xbox libraries will go with them across generations.
Together with AMD, we’re advancing the state of art in gaming silicon, to deliver the next generation of graphics innovation, to unlock a deeper level of visual quality, and immersive gamplay and player experiences, enhanced with the power of AI, all while maintaining compability with your existing library of Xbox games.
Bond explained that the mission going forward is to make Windows the ‘number one platform for gaming’. This is all building up to usher in the ‘next generation of Xbox’, which isn’t all that far away from being revealed, if chronological precedents are anything to go by.

It’ll be interesting to see in what capacity AI is integrated across the next Xbox consoles. For now, AI has mostly been confined to self-help solutions and suggestions on what to play next, but it’s no big secret that Microsoft’s Copilot is getting more intelligent all the time.
