Fall-Net Studios recently released a debut trailer for New Vegas: Online, an ambitious mod for 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas that ‘aims to bring multiplayer to its world.’ It’s a fan-made project that invites users to explore the Mojave Wasteland like never before, leaning on factions, new locations and creatures, and unique multiplayer mechanics to bring an MMO vibe to the game.
It’s not the first stab at a Fallout MMO, of course. In 2018, Bethesda Game Studios released Fallout 76, a post-apocalyptic MMORPG that has racked up tens of millions of players over the years. This is an unofficial attempt at bringing some multiplayer madness into what many say is the best Fallout game ever made.
New Vegas: Online is Free-to-Play, But…
If you’ve got yourself a legitimate copy of Fallout: New Vegas on Steam, you’ve got all you need (almost) to secure access to New Vegas: Online, a fan-made multiplayer project built on the foundation of the 2010 post-apocalyptic RPG.
Beyond that, you need to also have access to the project’s Discord server – simple.
Per the description on the New Vegas: Online website, this is a free-to-play mod, but it does use subscriptions that provide users with ‘cosmetics, small quality-of-life improvements, and small monthly boosts.’ The team endeavours to keep the game ‘as vanilla as possible’ while providing the framework necessary to promote replayable multiplayer content that opens up a new perspective for the game.

It’s not just the base game we’re talking about, though. The team at Fall-Net has added (or is in the process of adding):
- 10 new creatures
- 100+ capturable locations
- New factions
- Five expansions and new worldspaces
- TOTNW support
- New equipment
To facilitate a clean multiplayer experience, the team has leaned on functions and features available in Fallout 76, such as a quest synchronization system that tracks objectives differently for each user. There’s a ‘non-dupable loot sync’ system, in-game chat, administration teams, and combat synchronization that eradicates latency and hit registration issues.
Here’s the first trailer for New Vegas: Online:
Fallout’s modding space is known for these large-scale conversion mods that flip entire games into an all-new perspective. New Vegas: Online might have only just surfaced, but it has huge potential. This is still one of the most popular Fallout games ever made, and even more so now that folks have a remaster on the way.
