The next game from EA Originals is expected to be Tales of Kenzera: ZAU, according to a new post from Dealabs. It describes the game as a 2.5D side-scrolling platformer, with a release date of April 23, 2024.
Tales of Kenzera: ZAU will be developed by Surgent Studios. The developer has no previous titles in the gaming industry. It will reportedly be available on PC, PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S for $17.99.
EA Originals is a publishing arm that specifically concentrates on supporting innovative games and indie teams. They are best known for the Unravel series, Immortals of Aveum, and It Takes Two.
These titles have all earned strong ratings, and It Takes Two was an absolute phenomenon, with terrific characterization and level design.
This level of consistency has earned a fair amount of trust from fans, despite EA’s reputation. EA Originals did publish Wild Hearts, a Monster Hunter clone that arguably remains their most divisive title.
However, EA Originals has already proven their ability to identify successful and compelling platformers, which is promising for Tales of Kenzera: ZAU.
It could fit well among previously published titles, given the current description. The game is expected to feature a young hero with magical powers. They may have to juggle different abilities to progress.
At this time, Tales of Kenzera: ZAU doesn’t appear to be launching on last-gen consoles.
It could have complex visuals, which would benefit from next-gen technology. But this probably doesn’t imply the game will have a larger budget, with such a low price tag.
Fans can only speculate, since Surgent Studios hasn’t developed other games for reference. Still, finding fresh talent was the point of EA Originals.
