New Metro 2039 Trailer Reveals Stunning and Detailed World

During Gamescom’s Opening Night Live ceremony, 4A Games stepped up to the plate to deliver a stunning Metro 2039 trailer, expanding on the gameplay they uncovered several weeks ago. This new trailer was a spectacle that perfectly outlined how dark and detailed this game will be, reflecting the pure post-apocalyptic nature of the franchise.

Metro 2039 is slated to drop in February 2027, emerging as a long-awaited new iteration in the legendary series. The last game, Metro Exodus, dropped in 2019, and Metro 2039 has been bubbling away in development ever since.

Metro 2039 Goes Back to Moscow

Metro 2039 is set to be one of 2027’s most anticipated games. It has soared past one million wishlists and will be an easy buy for anyone with an interest in post-apocalyptic survival titles. Everything we’ve seen from this game and everything we’ve been told thus far has suggested that this will be the most morbid Metro title yet.

It’s an evolution over Metro Exodus in many ways. The engine is better, the world is more ambitious and detailed than ever before, combat sequences look gritty and realistic, and the player character, for the first time, has a voice.

Here’s the new trailer that debuted during the Opening Night Live showcase:

The biggest point of contention around this game is that the protagonist is not Arytom, the main character from the first three Metro games. Instead, we’ll be playing as The Stranger, an unidentified Spartan who was living in exile away from Metro of Moscow but has been pulled back to face off against a dark past and even darker present.
