Netflix Announces Live-Action Gears of War Film

To celebrate the 16th anniversary of Gears of War, Netflix has announced that the series will be getting a live-action film, followed by an animated series.

The announcement was made on Netflix’s Twitter account stating that the company has partnered with the Coalition to adapt the Gears of War video game saga.

Actor and ex-WWE star Dave Bautista had previously expressed interest in playing the role of Gears of War protagonist Marcus Fenix. However, no official details on the cast has yet been revealed.

The original trilogy, created by Epic Games, focuses on the conflict between humanity and the subterranean reptilian hominids known as the Locust Horde in the world of Sera.

In 2014, Microsoft announced it had acquired Gears of War from Epic Games for an undisclosed sum, with the franchise now developed and managed by The Coalition.

According to Microsoft, the Gears of War series has sold over 22 million units and earned over US$1 billion in revenue as of January 2014.

Last month, Microsoft applied for a new Gears of War trademark.
