MTG Booster Update Includes Huge God Pack Change

Magic: The Gathering players are about to get an overhaul to their gaming experience that’ll change how they experience the very thing they love. In a recent blog post, the team at Wizards of the Coast revealed that they’re planning to roll out a massive MTG booster overhaul – the most significant change to hit the scene in years.

Starting with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, which will be the first Magic set of 2027, Wizards will be issuing changes to Booster Packs and Collector Boosters designed around a core philosophy. They think that every pack should feel exciting and meaningful to open, and what’s better is that these improvements are coming without any price increases.

MTG Boosters Staring Down Insane God Pack Alteration

The headline around Wizards’ recent update is centered around God Packs. When Nauctis lands in 2027, it’ll introduce this overhaul, but the long story short is that every Magic Multiverse set will feature the potential for players to bag some extremely rare cards.

One in every 1,000 Booster Packs will have rare or Mythic cards, including Booster Fun treatments and traditional foils. In terms of Collector Boosters, every one in 300 packs will deliver a premium-stacked God Pack loaded with foils. They’re the kind of packs that make opening a dream, and they increase the stakes a hundredfold.

The team also explained that Japan Showcase cards, which were previously locked to Collector Boosters, will now appear in Booster Packs in traditional foil, and that rare and Mythic card drop rates are going to increase.

Of course, with all these additions, some things must be removed. Wizards confirmed that foil commons and uncommons are being removed from Booster Packs, and Collector Boosters will be getting their low-impact foil slots trimmed.

When all these changes come around next year, you’ll be holding boosters in your hand that could contain a God Pack, A Japan Showcase foil, or an increased number of rares, and that makes ripping simple packs a much more entertaining experience.
