Mortal Kombat 2 Source Code Leaked

The old video game leaks continue to pile up. This time it’s the full Mortal Kombat 2 source code.

Seemingly discovered by members of the r/MortalKombat subreddit, the leak includes all of the game’s sprites, sounds, animations, and more. Shared for everyone on GitHub, a lot of what’s included seems to be assets that never actually made it to the game’s final release.

Some of the elements discovered include possible fatalities and combos for popular characters like Johnny Care and Shao Khan. Khan’s supposed fatality involved a giant first with claws falling from the top of the screen to crush the opponent. If you don’t want to spend the time diving into it yourself, YouTuber TehDrewsus goes through everything that you can download and look at.

With the Mortal Kombat 2 source code now available to the public, it could be expected that people will start seeing various new projects pop up utilizing some of the assets. From mods of the original game to include the canned animations and combos to even something like a brand new fan-made game altogether, possibilities become endless for talented members of the gaming community.

Released in June 1993, Mortal Kombat 2 was the follow-up to the critically and commercially successful Mortal Kombat. Since the first game’s release over 30 years ago, Mortal Kombat continues to be a major franchise with new games and a rebooted movie franchise.
