The PS4 and Xbox One era feels like a lifetime ago, to the point that the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are starting to feel dated. With that said, let’s see if there is any hope for Modern Warfare 4 releasing on last-gen hardware.
You can feel it, can’t you? We’re getting to the stage now where most big games have to skip last-gen out of necessity for performance and production costs. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is 2026’s big shooter, and it’s looking to bounce the franchise back in a massive way after Battlefield 6 took home the spoils last year.
It will sell like hot cakes, regardless, but let’s see if MW4 caters to older consoles.
Is Modern Warfare 4 Coming to PS4?
There has been zero confirmation of a Modern Warfare 4 port for PS4.
A PlayStation 5 version of Modern Warfare 4 is set, but the initial launch consoles don’t include the PS4. Activision has committed to releasing all CoD games on both PS4 and PS5 since Black Ops Cold War in 2020, but it looks like MW4 is the end of the road.

You might have heard the rumor that Modern Warfare 4 was playtested on PS4, but the Call of Duty brand shut down this gossip across social media.
Is Modern Warfare 4 Coming to Xbox One?
You can also say goodbye to a potential Xbox One copy of Modern Warfare 4, as it’s also been confirmed that only Xbox Series X|S players will get to enjoy the FPS.
The question of Modern Warfare 4 being on last-gen continues to be asked, but the answer was actually given by Call of Duty in early May 2026.

It was revealed that Call of Duty will no longer release on last-gen consoles in an X exchange.
Unless Activision suddenly has a change of heart, we won’t get Modern Warfare 4 on PS4 or Xbox One, and the same will likely apply to all future CoD games, too.
