Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 could be getting customization killcams in the future, it’s been claimed. The rumor comes from RalphsValve, a popular Call of Duty account that has accurately leaked some Modern Warfare 2 details in the past.
According to Ralph, Modern Warfare 2 is getting customization killcams that will allow you to “select between Play of the Game or a Final Kill – you’ll also be able to extensively edit in Graphics, Messages, Audio, GIFS, and Templates.”
Following the tweet, Ralph posted a picture of what’s alleged to be an image for the Call of Duty patent showing off the killcams features. No link was provided to the patent, so its authenticity is currently questionable. Insider Gaming has asked for a link to the patent to prove its authenticity. You can see the image here:
It’s currently unclear if the rumor stems from internal sources or if it’s an assumption based on the patent itself.
Companies patent a wide range of different ideas for potential use further on down the road and just because an idea is patented, it doesn’t necessarily mean it will be used. However, something similar has already been in use within Call of Duty Vanguard, where players can select different borders in its killcams.
The alleged patented feature above is clearly more sophisticated than that of Vanguard’s, so we’ll just have to wait and see if it comes to Modern Warfare 2.
Modern Warfare 2 is set to have two years of support, so customizable killcams could come in year two as a part of the game’s overhaul. It’s been suggested by industry veteran Jason Schreier that year two of the game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games, who recently released Vanguard.
UPDATE – You can find the patent here (thanks to @TaskForce141).
