Modern Warfare 2 to Have Paid Campaign DLC in 2023

Regular Call of Duty leaky boy TheGhostOfHope has reported that Modern Warfare 2 will have a campaign DLC that is scheduled to release in 2023.

In response to these claims, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier had also weighed in on the news, corroborating Hope’s report.

“Next year they’ll be selling new stuff for MW2, an expansion or something like that (not sure exactly what it’ll look like but it’ll have campaign stuff too).”, Jason said on Twitter.

Insider Gaming was able to corroborate last week’s claims that Activision was planning to release “premium DLC” for year 2, but at the time campaign was not mentioned.

Schreier had previously alluded to some form of paid DLC coming to Modern Warfare 2 in early 2022, with a planned free-to-play title coming in 2023.

Insider Gaming understands that this free-to-play title was almost certainly Warzone 2.

A paid DLC makes a ton of sense following Activision’s rumored delay of Treyarch’s next title, which is now scheduled to release in 2024. Its premium DLC offering would ensure that the lack of a premium title for 2023 would be somewhat reimbursed.

Insider Gaming understands that Modern Warfare 2’s paid DLC would include a series of remastered multiplayer maps from past games. It’s understood that this DLC would be “huge” in comparison to its free seasoned content to ensure the justification of a paid DLC.

It’s unclear is the campaign DLC offering will be a continuation of Modern Warfare 2, or if Activision plans to remaster Modern Warfare 3 (2011), as they did with Modern Warfare 2 (2009).

The last time Call of Duty offered a paid DLC was with Zombies Chronicles in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Since then, Call of Duty has continued its free live service model.
