In a new official blog post, Mojang Studios confirmed that a preview is available today for a native version of Minecraft on PlayStation 5.
Players who own the PlayStation 4 version of Minecraft can access the new preview on their PlayStation 5 via “Settings” and “Preview” in-game.
The preview includes the Tricky Trials Update, and it supports multiplayer for PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles. This early version also features cross-play on Realms. Players with a subscription can create a separate preview realm that doesn’t affect their normal creations.
Mojang does warn that preview builds “will likely be unstable,” and invited feedback from fans. Also, the preview version does not have access to the Minecraft Store.
Mojang elaborated on the decision to make a PlayStation 5 version of Minecraft. The devs explained that a native PS5 version will naturally allow the game to “run more effectively on the PS5’s hardware.”
Minecraft Legends just ended new content last January, but the core Minecraft game continues to thrive. In fact, Netflix announced last month that a Minecraft animated series is “coming soon.” This is in addition to the Minecraft film adaptation, with Jack Black attached to play Steve.
PlayStation recently held a lengthy State of Play showcase, teasing a variety of titles like Monster Hunter Wilds and a PC version of God of War Ragnarok.
