The Outer Worlds 2 is the first title to join Microsoft’s $80 video game lineup.
The Outer Worlds 2 Becomes Microsoft’s First $80 Game
Earlier last month, Microsoft announced that it would increase the prices of hardware and games this year. From this holiday, first-party titles will be priced at $79.99. Spotted by IGN, The Outer Worlds 2, which will be released on October 29, 2025, will be the first entry in the $80 game collection. Microsoft shared that these price changes “were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development.”
Last month, Gearbox’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, received a lot of backlash for his comment on Borderlands 4’s pricing. He had stated that “real fans” would pay $80 for Borderlands 4 if it cost that much. However, he later apologised for his comments and explained that game budgets are steadily increasing, with Borderlands 4 costing twice as much as Borderlands 3. The final price for Borderlands 4 hasn’t been confirmed yet.
For those wondering, The Outer Worlds 2 is the sequel to Obsidian Entertainment’s award-winning, first-person sci-fi RPG from 2019. The upcoming title will introduce players to a new crew, weapons, and enemies set in a new colony.
