Kojima Snubbed In First ‘Metal Gear Solid Legacy’ Video

Konami’s Metal Gear Solid Legacy series has finally arrived, with the first episode recently being published online for all to see. It’s a wonderful thing, offering some intense fan service in the form of a lookback presented by none other than David Hayter, long-time MGS voice actor who lent his dulcet (if a little gritty) tones to Solid Snake and Naked Snake (later Big Boss).

However, fans of the franchise were shocked to see that in the six-minute video – which set the Metal Gear Solid scene for the series ahead – Hideo Kojima, the creator of the legendary franchise, wasn’t mentioned once.

It’s No Big Surprise

When talking about everyone who contributed to the creation and early success of Metal Gear Solid, David Hayter failed to mention one all-important name: Hideo Kojima. But that doesn’t come as a big surprise. Despite creating the franchise in 1987 and leading the charge for almost the next thirty years, Hideo Kojima had a less-than-amicable split from Konami, the series’ publisher, in 2015.

Since then, the series has suffered immeasurably. Following Kojima’s departure shortly after the release of MGS V: The Phantom Pain, Konami released MGS Survive (2018), which went on to become the worst-rated game in franchise history. Now, the company is planning to revive the franchise by remaking one of the best-selling titles ever introduced: Snake Eater.

(One of Kojima’s greatest games).

It should be mentioned that no names were dropped during the introductory episode of Metal Gear Solid Legacy, but specifically leaving out Kojima’s name is a sharp (if predictable) punch to the gut. There are a few episodes planned to be released as the series unravels, so perhaps they’ll give credit where credit is due at some point, but I doubt it.

    1. Well, to be fair, he is not real Big Boss. They can change the face, but not the voice.

  1. Eye for an eye, Kojima really disrespected David Hayter during MGS5 just so he could buddy up to a big actor. What goes around comes back around.
