Clint ‘Maven’ Evans has stepped down from his commentator position in the Call of Duty League after revealing he has struck up an ‘unconventional/taboo’ relationship with Joe ‘MerK’ DeLuca’s ex-wife. He stressed in a post on social media that it wasn’t something he saw coming, but it’s likely he understands how strange an ongoing, on-screen partnership with MerK would be.
He insisted that fans should keep supporting the Call of Duty League and Joe, but it’s not like his departure would have rendered the CDL insignificant.
Awkward Situation
In a post on social media, Maven revealed his departure from the Call of Duty League, the game’s top-tier esports circuit:
I’ll be stepping away from the CDL for the foreseeable future.
As some of you know, I was very close to my casting partner Joe and his family. Maurisa was one of my best friends. We remained friends, after they divorced, and along the way it became more than that and we started dating.
I understand how unconventional/taboo it is. It’s truly not something I ever foresaw happening.
I hope that one day I’ll be back working on the CDL. If not, it was a hell of a ride, and I appreciate the love over the years. Please continue to show support to Joe, the CDL, and its talent!
It’s unclear if Maven is quitting the League of his own volition, or if he was potentially nudged out by his employers who didn’t want some awkward dynamic developing on screen.
MerK and Maven have been a recognizable duo in the Call of Duty esports space for several years, and they have one of the best dynamics in the business. It’s unclear who will partner with MerK full-time going forward, but there’s plenty of bandwidth to determine that, as the CDL isn’t expected to boot up for its 2027 season until mid-December.
