Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is getting an official prequel comic as part of Free Comic Book Day this Saturday.
The story will of course take place before the events of the highly anticipated superhero blockbuster and allow fans some time to get caught up with the trio of Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Mary-Jane Watson. The official PlayStation Blog post teases certain plot elements including Peter adjusting to New York having two Spider-Men following the events of the last game, Mile’s final year of high school, and MJ’s journalism career.
The prequel comic will see the trio contend with a lesser-known Marvel villain known as the Hood who seemingly has the ability to wield magic. Christos Gage will be leading writing duties after working with Insomiac on Marvel’s Spider-Man with artwork from Ig Guara.
Alongside the reveal of the prequel comic was the announcement that the remastered version of Marvel’s Spider-Man is set to release as a standalone purchase on PS5 later this month. The game was previously only available as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition.
Players who previously owned the game on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the remastered version for $10. The option to upgrade Marvel’s Spider-Man: Mile’s Morales to its Ultimate Edition also remains in place. If neither option applies then unfortunately players will have to cough up $49.99 to play the remastered title.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to release this fall and it looks like Insomniac is gearing up for a big promotional push which could well see a new gameplay trailer being released in the coming months. We’re anticipating the game to release around September following claims from Venom actor, Tony Todd.
Will you be picking up the Spider-Man 2 prequel comic?
