Riot Games has announced a midscope update for League of Legends champion Mel that reworks her kit substantially.
Mainly, Riot is removing the part of Mel’s W Rebuttal that reflected projectiles back at opponents.
Riot already released a small rework to Mel back in February 2026 to try and address players’ frustrations with the champion.
However, that hasn’t worked, and Riot has accepted that the Arcane star needs more drastic changes.
Why Riot is Updating Mel?
In the dev update released by Riot, the LoL publisher conceded that when it came to Mel, “it became impossible to balance her existing kit.”
“It was clear that other players no longer felt she was a challenge they could overcome at any reasonable win rate,” the statement added.
With a high ban rate and consistent win rate, Mel became too much of an issue for Riot’s balancing team, especially with the growing frustration players felt playing against her.
Riot claims their experimenting found that the reflect could only work as an Ultimate but wasn’t happy with that solution either.
“Mel’s current Ultimate is already serving well as an exciting high moment and is core to her combat pattern as a mage – reducing the power of Golden Eclipse down to a basic ability was an unacceptable trade,” Riot explained.
Mel’s new Rebuttal [W] will still destroy enemy projectiles and retaliate against them, but it will no longer allow her to reflect them.
She can no longer reflect a Seraphine Ultimate to charm the entire enemy team or nuke Jhin with his own Fourth Shot.
Instead of a reflection, it will destroy projectiles as well as shield and speed up nearby allies.

What’s New in Mel’s Reworked League of Legends Kit?

To rebalance the champion after this change, all of Mel’s abilities are receiving updates.
Firstly, Riot is is removing some of her early game durability and the damage on her passive in favor of scaling health and armor.
Additionally, Riot is also addressing frustrations around Me’s undogeable Radiant Volley [Q] by slowing it down and shifting more of its damage into subsequent hits rather than the first initial explosion.
And again, Mel’s W will now act similarly to Samira W or Yasuo’s Wind Wall in blocking projectiles, while giving nearby allies a shield and movement speed.
Riot is also adjusting the root on her Solar Snare [E] to be shorter against nearby enemies and longer against farther ones.
This is to make Mel both more vulnerable in more matchups but also reward Mel players more for landing her long-range skill shot.
But the biggest change is how Riot is empowering the combo of Mel’s Searing Brilliance [P] and Golden Eclipse [R].
Riot is helping Mel rack up more stacks of her passive by giving her Q a flat cooldown refund if she hits at least one champion.
And her ultimate is getting more cooldown reduction that will scale with Mel’s ability level to pay off the work for gathering stacks.
When Does Mel’s Rework Release?
Riot has confirmed that the Mel Midscope Update will release with LoL Patch 26.22.
This means it will be part of the next patch, which is set to release on Wednesday, November 4, and should be on the PBE soon.
