Lance Reddick, Horizon Zero Dawn and The Wire Actor, Dies Aged 60

Lance Reddick, the instantly recognisable actor best known for his work on The Wire, John Wick, and Horizon Zero Dawn, has died aged 60. Reportedly, Reddick’s body was discovered at his home in Los Angeles on Friday morning, and at present, the cause of his death is believed to be ‘natural causes’.

As recently as Wednesday, Reddick was active on social media, posting a short video that revealed he was enjoying a day at home with his dogs. Today, the film and gaming industry is rocked to learn that, with no prior warning or indications of ill health, Lance Reddick has sadly passed away.

An Unforgettable Impact

Lance Reddick, born in 1962, broke into acting with his first television appearance taking place in 1996. Over the course of almost three decades, Reddick would go on to star in countless productions, spanning traditional film and television shows, but also serving as an accomplished voice and motion capture actor in gaming.

Some of Reddick’s most notable works include:

  • The Wire (Cedric Daniels), 2002 – 2008
  • John Wick franchise (Charon), 2014 – 2023
  • Fringe (Phillip Broyles), 2008 – 2013
  • Resident Evil (Albert Wesker), 2022

And in terms of his most notable roles in gaming:

  • Destiny & Destiny 2 (Commander Zavala), 2014 – 2023
  • Horizon Zero Dawn & Horizon Forbidden West (Sylens), 2017 – 2022
  • Quantum Break (Martin Hatch), 2016

Next week, on March 24th, one of Reddick’s final films will debut, John Wick 4. He will also see posthumous releases in the form of Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2024) and Hellboy: Web of Wyrd (TBC), in which he voiced the titular character.

The news of his tragic passing has sent shockwaves across the industry, with prominent actors and personalities pouring out their heartfelt condolences. On Twitter, Ben Stiller wrote:

Lance Reddick was an beautiful and compelling actor. And a beautiful person. He worked with my mom Anne Meara in her play “Afterplay”, playing Raziel, the waiter slash angel of death. He was exquisite in that and all he did. Nothing is lost.
