LA Thieves Wins Call of Duty League Major 3 Tournament

Call of Duty League’s Major 3 tournament has wrapped at DreamHack Atlanta, and it was LA Thieves that lifted the trophy on the grand stage. After an exciting weekend of play that included an intense Pro-Am segment, LA Thieves won a close grand final to secure the $150,000 prize and 100 CDL points.

This win arrives almost a year since LAT’s last LAN victory and just weeks after the team claimed the Minor tournament. OpTic Texas looked clean in the upper bracket, pushing through all comers, but LAT capitalized on the momentum of an insane lower bracket run to beat OpTic to the post.

LAT Secures a Major Trophy

LA Thieves has scooped the Major 3 trophy in the Call of Duty League, defeating OpTic Texas in the grand final and netting the substantial prize, the organization’s first LAN win this season. Both Major 1 and Major 2 ended with OpTic Texas taking a second-place finish, and this event went the same way.

LA Thieves went the distance, of course. The grand final ended with a scoreline of 4 – 3 in LAT’s favor, and the team fought like hell to get that far. They were forced into the lower bracket by FaZe Vegas early on, but the squad showed immense resilience, taking down:

  • G2 Minnesota
  • Riyadh Falcons
  • FaZe Vegas
  • Toronto KOI

It was a phenomenal weekend all around. Last season’s end-of-year run for OpTic Texas was nothing short of incredible, but it is taking a while to get the wheels turning this season towards a win. That’s a notion that’ll keep on burning into Major 4.

The opening round of Hardpoint went closely in OpTic’s favor, but LAT came back with back-to-back wins, one in Search on Raid and another in a powerful showing of Overload on Den. OpTic notched up another Hardpoint win on Den (but it was an extremely close finish), before hitting another point in Scar SnD.

The round of Scar Search produced one of the cleanest sniper kills Dashy has produced in an extremely long time:

LAT was able to pinch the second and final Overload on Scar, leaving things to boil down to a terrifying round of Search on Den, one of LAT’s best maps this season. Dashy kicked off the map with a nasty collateral, keeping his form:

It was neck and neck most of the way through, but LAT took the lead, pushing way ahead and finishing up 6 – 2 to snatch the victory and lift the trophy.
