Following the live service nature of Battlefield 2024, which led to many long-time fans abandoning the franchise, it appears EA is set to repeat its mistakes again. Here is what we know about the next Battlefield game being live service.
Is the Upcoming Battlefield Live Service?
Unfortunately, in an earnings call recently, EA’s Andrew Wilson revealed to shareholders that multiple development teams are working on the next Battlefield game, which promises to be their greatest live service title. Unfortunately, this is completely out of touch with everything the Battlefield community wants.
In the same call, Wilson stated that they’ve learned loads from community feedback following the disastrous launches of Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042, both of which have come a long way and are, admittedly, in better places today. But at launch? Absolutely not. They were horrendous, soulless messes with lackluster gameplay.

Will the New Battlefield Feature Heroes or Classes?
While nothing is officially confirmed, Wilson’s statements regarding a live service model do not bode well for anyone hoping for a return to form for the franchise. EA desperately wants Battlefield to compete with Call of Duty, which it has wanted for years. However, they’re throwing caution to the wind instead of building something unique. They’ve lost their way with the long-running franchise.
In any case, being live service, it’s likely we will, unfortunately, see heroes return in some form. EA and DICE really did pat themselves on the back for that system in 2042, and it was only because of community anger and feedback that they brought back a shell of the old-school class system.
We’ll likely see more heroes, battle passes, and cosmetics in Battlefield’s future.
