Is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Crossplay? Cross-Platform Status Explained

With the crossover nature of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, even more people may be interested in the game being crossplay than normal.

Racing games are already among the games that people want to be able to race everyone, but with different franchises represented here, you can pull in even more people.

So, is Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds crossplay? Here is a breakdown on what you can expect from its cross-platform status when the game releases.

Yes, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has crossplay for its online racing.

No matter what platform you are playing the game on, you can play with your friends and other racers on different platforms. It was actually turned on during the open beta test and ran perfectly fine there.

Thankfully, arcade racers like this also don’t notice a large difference when playing on consoles or PC, so everyone is essentially on even ground. It’s not like a first-person shooter like Battlefield 6, which will have a drastic advantage to PC players using a mouse and keyboard over someone trying to aim with a controller.

There is nothing you need to do to activate the crossplay setting in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. It will be on by default as long as your permissions on your device allow for the game to be played with other platforms the first time you start it.

Does Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Have Cross-Progression?

As of this writing, we do not know if Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has cross-progression, but the odds are no.

The only situation where we know that your progress will carry over between versions of the game is if you buy the game on the first Nintendo Switch and then upgrade it to the Nintendo Switch 2 version. However, that’s a bit different considering you are still just using your Nintendo save, so that situation is quite different from jumping between PC and a console.

While crossplay has largely become a staple for multiplayer games being released these days, cross-progression has been a little slower to be fully adopted by every game company.

That isn’t to say that there is no chance that Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will have cross-progression in addition to its crossplay, but Sega likely would have included that in the messaging before now if it were happening.
