Gray Zone Warfare is a hugely enjoyable and incredibly expansive tactical shooter with some extraction and survival mechanics. It was released in April 2024 by MADFINGER Games, a studio that broadened its horizons immeasurably for Gray Zone Warfare, which, at the time, launched as a hardcore extraction shooter. It has since changed its identity.
That’s all well and good, but we also know that Gray Zone Warfare was released on PC only. Does that mean it’ll never come to Xbox or PlayStation? Let’s find out if Gray Zone Warfare is ever coming to console.
Gray Zone Warfare Console Version
Gray Zone Warfare is planned to eventually launch on consoles, and at the time of publishing, we assume that means the Xbox Series platform and the PlayStation 5 console. When Gray Zone Warfare was released in 2024, MADFINGER addressed this very concept and said:
Our goal is to be available on consoles as well.
Consoles could be years out. We want to build the ultimate experience and make sure our vision truly comes into fruition first.
It was a transparent answer that set the story straight. By today, that notion hasn’t changed, and it’s still in the wider pipeline for Gray Zone Warfare, but it certainly doesn’t have a date of any kind.
In April 2026, MADFINGER Games further confirmed that Gray Zone Warfare will land on console platforms with the 1.0 launch of the game. At the time of writing, no date was available for 1.0, but it was expected not to arrive for several years.
Is Gray Zone Warfare Getting Controller Support?
While we’re talking about the console versions of Gray Zone Warfare, it’s important to address the lack of controller support.
When making the above statement, the team at MADFINGER Games also said:
Controller support will eventually be implemented for PC too.
By March 2026, no controller support had arrived, but there’s a good reason. Gray Zone Warfare is a complex game with many keybinds, and that naturally makes it hard to translate inputs to a controller with a limited number of buttons. The finer movements of a mouse also translate much better into the world of tactical shooters.
That’s why games like Escape from Tarkov also refrain from offering controller support. There are just too many buttons that you need to press.
In a single gunfight, you might need to check your ammunition, alter your firing mode, lean this way and that, change your scope’s zoom depth, engage a tactical item, use a grenade, alter your stance, and apply healing items. That does not work well with a controller that has just 16 inputs.
