Insomniac Games Confirms Spider-Man Won’t Appear in Marvel’s Wolverine

Attention towards Marvel’s Wolverine is continuing to rise ahead of launch later this year, with excitement levels fuelled further by the latest gameplay trailer, but Insomniac Games has moved early to avoid any confusion by confirming Spider-Man won’t appear in the title.

After three successful Spider-Man games to flesh out their comic book universe, bringing the likes of Peter Parker, Miles Morales, Venom, and plenty more to life, Insomniac Games is turning its focus away from New York to bring an adventure across the world, putting players in control of Wolverine.

However, while the debut of the X-Men icon does take place in the same universe as Spider-Man, it has already been confirmed that there will not be a cameo from the web-swinging fan-favorite.

No Spider-Man Cameo in Marvel’s Wolverine

In an interview with IGN, Marcus Smith, creative director of Marvel’s Wolverine, put to bed any hope of a Spider-Man cameo in the title, making it clear there will not be any such appearance.

“It’s correct that it does take place in the 1048 Marvel Universe, which is the Insomniac video game universe. It happens in the same world, but we don’t have any crossover. Spider-Man will not be making an appearance in Wolverine.”

While the news may be disappointing for anyone who hoped to see the two iconic Marvel characters meet, it does make sense from a story perspective, particularly as Insomniac has made it clear that the existence of mutants is not widely known in the universe.

Therefore, Spider-Man himself likely doesn’t know that mutants exist, and would therefore have no reason to cross paths with Wolverine in the upcoming title.

There is still a chance for Peter Parker and Logan to come face-to-face somewhere in the future, however, with Insomniac continuing to make Marvel titles to expand their universe.

When the existence of mutants comes to light, or if the X-Men get established in the Insomniac universe, the likelihood of Wolverine and Spider-Man crossing paths increases.

Spider-Man and Wolverine have teamed up on many occasions in the world of comic books, and are set to meet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, but, for now, they will be kept apart in Insomniac Games’ world.
