Excitement levels for Marvel’s Wolverine are rising following the latest gameplay footage revealed during Sony’s State of Play, and further details have revealed a team-up with a surprising character.
Trailers and gameplay footage have revealed a number of recognisable characters set to make an appearance in the title, with Jean Grey, Leech, Omega Red, Sentinels, and more all being spotted.
The latest gameplay trailer also revealed Sabertooth will be making an appearance, but it turns out he will actually be an ally for Logan in the game.
Logan Teams Up With Sabertooth in Marvel’s Wolverine
In an interview with IGN, game director Mike Daly revealed that Sabertooth will be teaming up with Logan in Marvel’s Wolverine, and will therefore not be one of the main villains.
“In this game, Logan and Sabretooth are actually on a team together,” Daly explained, “but the way they ally is not really anything like the way you ally with Jean Grey.”
“Logan and Sabretooth have a very competitive dynamic between them. Whereas Jean Grey might give you an opportunity to get a kill, with Sabretooth fighting alongside you, it’s more like, you think you’ve got a kill and he rushes in to steal it from you, and their combat banter brings out that dynamic and makes the whole fight more fun.”
It remains to be seen whether Logan and Sabertooth go head-to-head at any point in the story, but given the setting of Marvel’s Wolverine features mutants in hiding, and the majority of the world not knowing about their existence, it does make sense for their goals to be aligned.
That could, of course, change as Marvel’s Wolverine develops further in Insomniac Games’ universe, and having Sabertooth turn from friend to foe as the series develops could certainly add further layers to the story.
