Indiana Jones: Everything we Know About Indiana Jones

Despite its popularity, the Indiana Jones franchise has seen very few video games over the years, especially in more recent times with the most notable being the Lego Indiana Jones series. As such, it came as a much-welcomed surprise in 2021, when Bethesda announced that it was working on a new game, the first since 2011.

Not much is known about the game so far, but as development continues there will be a steady release of information in the coming months. Here is everything we know so far about Indiana Jones.

Indiana Jones Release Date

As of right now, no release date has been given for the upcoming Indiana Jones game, and there is too little information to begin to speculate as to when it could be. As more information is revealed a release date will eventually be announced and we will keep you updated.

What Platforms Will Indiana Jones Release On?

Indiana Jones is set to release on Xbox Series X and PC, meaning that PlayStation gamers will unfortunately miss out on the game.

Disney Allowed Microsoft To Make Indiana Jones An Xbox Exclusive

Indiana Jones was originally scheduled to be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, but following the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft, its upcoming releases were pulled from Sony’s platform and made exclusive to Xbox. This was the case with the recently released Starfield and will be the same for future titles including The Elder Scrolls 6.

Surprisingly, Disney gave Microsoft the approval to make Indiana Jones exclusive to Xbox, despite the original license agreement being for a multi-platform game. The game will still be released on PC via the Xbox app, it is currently unconfirmed whether it will make its way to Steam, however many Xbox exclusives are also on Steam so that likely will be the case.

Will Indiana Jones Be On Xbox Game Pass?

With Indiana Jones being developed by the Microsoft-owned Bethesda, this means that the game will launch on day 1 on Xbox Game Pass for both console and PC, allowing players to check the game out as part of their existing subscription.

Indiana Jones’ Development Is Headed Up By Todd Howard

MachineGames, the studio behind the Wolfenstein reboot series since 2014’s The New Order, is taking the reins for this upcoming project. The game will be headed up by Todd Howard, who has served as a producer and director for many games in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchises, as well as Starfield. Todd Howard is known for being a huge fan of the movies, even naming his first dog Indy. In 2009, Todd Howard pitched the idea for a new game to LucasFilm but it was turned down, so it makes sense that he has jumped at the opportunity to produce this game.

Indiana Jones Teaser Trailer

A teaser trailer for Indiana Jones was first revealed in January 2021, which gave very little information and instead was largely filled with Easter Eggs from the movies. In the trailer, the camera pans across a desk and various books and papers can be seen along with a camera. The trailer ends with a shot of Indy’s iconic hat and whip.

Don’t Expect A Full Reveal Until 2024

Since the initial reveal in 2021, Bethesda has been extremely quiet and hasn’t shed any light on the game, but that should be changing this year. During an interview in September 2023, executive producer Todd Howard stated that fans will have to wait until “next year” to find out more details.

Where In The Timeline Is The New Indiana Jones Game?

The teaser trailer has revealed some details that pinpoint the game’s location and place in the timeline. The plane ticket is dated 1937 and a map of Vatican City can be seen, which indicates the game will be set in Italy. Raider of the Lost Ark takes place in 1936, so the events of the game could follow on from the movie.

Is The New Indiana Jones Game Canon?

With so little information being known about the upcoming Indiana Jones game, it hasn’t been confirmed whether the game will be part of the canon timeline. It does seem likely that it will be the case, but we will have to wait until later in the year for confirmation when new details are revealed.
