How to Unlock Ref in Escape from Tarkov

On June 6, Battlestate Games updated Escape from Tarkov and Tarkov Arena, synchronising the two games for the first time. They also introduced a new trader named ‘Ref’, locking him behind a fairly tough quest wall – especially for inexperienced players. In this short guide, we’ll break down how to unlock Ref in Tarkov as quickly as possible.

Unlocking Ref in Tarkov

To unlock Ref as a trader in Escape from Tarkov, you’ll need to accept the quest ‘Easy Money – Part 1’ from Skier. To complete this quest, you’ll need to find a stack of promotional fighting-based posters and stash them in specific locations across a range of maps. It’s tough as the spots where you need to hide these posters are hot spots for combat.

Firstly, you’ll want to head to Woods and travel to the USEC Camp. That’s where your first bout of danger will crop up, as this high-value location is always the first port of call for PMCs spawning nearby. It’s also located between several Scav spawns, so you’ll need to keep your head on a swivel. Once in the USEC Camp, you’ll be looking for three piles of posters.

  • One is sitting inside a tent on top of the wooden box – it’s the tent closest to the minefield on the south side of the USEC Camp.
  • The other two are sitting on top of chairs or stools near the green tents on the northern portion of the USEC Camp

Now that you’ve secured your posters, you can begin the challenge in earnest. Keeping the posters in your quest inventory, you’ll need to travel to Customs and plant one stack of posters in the living quarters at the Scav Base. Then, you’ll want to head to Reserve and go to the railway platform, stashing another pile of flyers. Finally, head to Lighthouse and get into the helicopter at the water treatment plant, stashing the final stack of posters.

Once you’ve ticked these boxes, you’ll unlock Ref and secure a tidy allotment of roubles and XP for your troubles.
