Tatsugiri is the latest Pokémon added to Pokémon Go, though some challenges lie ahead if you want to get your hands on all three forms.
The Water Festival 2025 event is underway in Pokémon Go, giving players plenty to keep busy with as we eagerly await next week’s Pokémon Presents stream and the launch of the summer event in Pokémon TCG Pocket.
We’ve got all the details for Tatsugiri’s debut in Pokémon Go below, including whether you can get your hands on a Shiny version of the Paldean favorite.
How to Get Tatsugiri in Pokémon Go

Tatsugiri is exclusive to one-star raids in Pokémon Go during the Water Festival event, which ends at 8 pm local time on Sunday, 20 July.
While the event has an array of Pokémon spawning more often, including increased chances to encounter a Shiny Staryu and Shiny Tirtouga, the only way to get your hands on Tatsugiri is by defeating the Pokémon in a one-star Raid and successfully catching it.
Tatsugiri should be relatively easy to defeat due to the low difficulty rating, though there are some caveats to be aware of as you are limited on the form you will receive.
All Tatsugiri Forms in Pokémon Go & How to Catch Them
Tatsugiri forms in Pokémon Go are regionally exclusive, limiting the type you encounter. You can avoid this, however, by using a Remote Raid Pass and joining a Tatsugiri Raid hosted by a player in another region.
You can also trade with other players for different Tatsugiri forms, although you need to be located within 100m of the player you are trading with. Therefore, if you want to obtain every form, Remote Raid Passes are your best option.
The table below shows the three Tatsugiri forms in Pokémon Go and the regions they can be encountered in.
| Form | Region |
|---|---|
| Curly Form Tatsugiri | Europe, Middle East & Africa |
| Curly Form Tatsugiri | Americas |
| Stretchy Form Tatsugiri | Asia-Pacific |
Can Tatsugiri be Shiny in Pokémon Go?
No, Tatsugiri cannot be Shiny in Pokémon Go, and it will likely be quite a wait until a Shiny form of the Pokémon debuts.
Niantic likes to make a big deal about new Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon Go, saving their debuts for special events or new seasons. This often means a long wait between the initial debut of a Pokémon and the introduction of its Shiny form, so don’t expect to get a Shiny Tatsugiri anytime soon.
There are plenty of other Shiny Pokémon available during the Water Festival event, however, including the chance to get a Shiny Lapras either wearing a scarf or with Gigantamax capabilities.
